The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated all over India but most particularly in the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnatka and Andhra Pradesh. Started by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja , the festival was revived by Lokmanya Tilak to spread the message of freedom and struggle and defy the British who banned the public assemblies. A feeling of unity was being invoked among the people through this festival and their patriotic spirit and faith was revived. This festival formed the background for political leaders who delivered their speeches in order to inspire the people against the western rule. The festival is so popular among the masses that its preparations start happening months in advance.
His statues are installed in the street corners and in homes and extravagant arrangements are made for lightening, decoration, mirrors and most common of the flowers. Prayers are performed on the daily basis. The artists who make Ganesh idols compete with each other to make bigger and more elegant idols.
